Chocolate chip cookies

This is my mother's--and now my--fool proof cookie recipe. I can whip them up before the oven is finished preheating.  And it always makes 2 dozen exactly. I love it.

1/3 c shortening
1/3 c marg
1/2 c sugar
1/2 c brown sugar
1 egg
1 t vanilla
1/2 t salt
1/2 t baking soda
1 1/2 c flour (+/- 1/4 cup)
1 c chocolate chips

Blend shortening, marg, sugars. Add egg. Add vanilla, salt, baking soda. Add flour and chocolate chips. 375 degrees (I do 350 because I have dark cookie sheets) for 9-10 minutes on non greased sheets.

I usually make a batch and freeze one dozen for later.
